  1. Congrats on 400 followers!
Our first day of school was today, and one of my sweet bunnies said to me, "Mrs. Nerby, I am just so excited that you are my teacher! I am so happy!" and I said back to her, "When I found out you were in our class, I was so happy too! I am glad you are here!" (I know her family and I truly am happy she is in my class). You should have seen the smile on her face... SO CUTE!!

  3. At the first day teaching at my current school a student mysteriously appeared in my room around 10:00. I assumed he was new and the office just sent new students down to your room at a moment's notice. I got him a desk, nametag, snack and kept on teaching. An hour later his name was announced frantically over the intercom. Apparently he was a fourth grader who had wandered into my third grade classroom. I have no idea how he could have mixed me up with his fourth grade male teacher with a giant beard. Sweet!

  4. My moment is when one year I realized that I had a third sibling of the same family three years in a row! It was pretty cool! Even the mom and I were laughing!

  8. I am a new follower to your blog! It seems like every year is an adventure in the beginning. I had one of a twin set when I was student teaching and the twins switched up on us at lunch. Then I didn't realize I had the wrong child until about 30 minutes later when he wouldn't come as I called his name! I was so upset, but it didn't bother him at all!

  9. My favorite beginning of the year story is a couple of years ago the first thing a student said to me was "I am so glad my mom requested you because I heard you dont fail kids!" Well, I haven't had to fail a kid but I had to laugh :)

  11. Congrats on 400 followers!

A funny moment from today (2nd day of school): I'm helping with bus loads now that I don't have a homeroom. When one of the buses was pulling in, they sideswiped another bus. It was REALLY loud! Fortunately, no one was hurt, no kids saw, and the buses were fine!

  12. I told ya I'd help you get to 400! So, two years ago, I taught second grade for the first time in about ten years. We all knew that after the next year, a fourth grade teacher in ELA and US History (my formers, and faves) was retiring. Everyone assumed I'd go back to fourth grade, only no one informed the new principal. Here's the funny part: I had 3 families come up to me on "Meet the Teacher Night" who had requested me for fourth grade, because they wanted to have me again, after having had me in second grade. BUMMER, but funny and gave me that warm fuzzy, too!

  13. Congrats on 400! I moved from 1st to 2nd and have 5 of the same kiddos again. One of them was writing about me today. It said: Mrs. Brooks is my teacher. She is lovely, kind, smart and a diva. I said, " Aw you are so sweet but am I really a diva?". She replied, "Sure! You wear dresses all the time!"

  14. I got a migraine in class yesterday and I had to give my yearly migraine talk to my firsties. They helped me as much as they could, you could hear a pin drop. I had to leave because it got worse and they looked so sad. I can't wait to go back tomorrow and see them!
