More SMART stuff/ good technology websites!

Did you know that if you use an interactive white board (properly) to teach your students can increase achievement by 16%?  (Marzano)
I was surprised by that figure!  I had NO idea what the board in my room was capable of doing until this past week.  I actually was mad at first because this giant thing appeared in my room (without much warning) and took up my entire white board.  I thought... now what.. how am I going to teach?!  It's funny to think back on that now.  If you have an interactive white board and haven't had proper training on how to use it, I HIGHLY recommend finding a class!   Just so you know, there is a newly updated version of Notebook that just came out, Notebook 11.  There are some better features like: your properties tab coming up right away, being able to record your voice directly on your file, and being able to create your own vortex- very cool feature!  It's completely free to upgrade.

Here are a few cool things I learned and some places to get some good stuff!

I wanted to share a snippet of an Energy Unit that I just completed for the SMART board... its going to be so fun to use- too bad I teach this in January!

There are 10 interactive activities included!  This would be perfect for second grade, but first and third could definitely do all of the activities.  There are links to sound, videos, games with instant feedback and so much more--- it's jam packed!

I'd like to do a quick giveaway of this to a random commenter below... if you are interested...leave a comment with your address :)

Finally, there are ONLY 8 days left to enter the linky giveaway!!!

Don't forget to check out the new submissions and link up!! :)

  2. Tori -Thanks for sharing! I went to school last week to collaborate with some other teachers and we found these HUGE boxes against the wall. We found out we are all getting "something like a Smartboard". Although I'm very excited, I'm wondering when the training is going to happen. I wil definately be using your resources!

  3. This would be a great unit for the kiddos!! =) I now have brand new ELD standards to follow ... and was told to use "whatever necessary" to meet those standards. Translation: If our district adopted reading series doesn't meet the standards, I am supposed to find materials to teach it.
I've been spending most of my summer trying to find various units to teach this upcoming school year.

  4. I love my SMARTBoard. I have taught for 26 years and don't know how I could teach without one now. I always tell the tech teacher if something is wrong with my SMARTBoard then I have to go home because I can't teach without it. Ha Ha. I have made many units for everthing I teach and the students always want to use the SMARTBoard during center time.

  5. Oooh, I like the looks of all'a'this! I'm getting a SmartBoard in my room next year and have zero idea how to use it really. I'm sure there will be some orientation training in my future! Thanks for the opportunity; I'm sure the energy unit will come in useful.
